SMS Eagles soar

In a good display of basketball skill and determination,

the Snoqualmie Eagles eighth-grade girls’ varsity team powered its way to

victory over Maywood 55-38.

The competition was fierce as both teams battled back and forth into

the fourth quarter. Kaycee Crossan set the tone early with her aggressive

defense and command of the offense. Maggie Kujath played tough under the

boards, grabbing rebounds, while Rachel Travis sizzled the nets from inside

and outside to help gain control of the tightly contested ball game.

Amy Trenkamp and Whitney Chelgren sliced through

Maywood’s defense for a combined 14 points, with Kujath popping in another

eight. Rachel Travis proved too tough to handle for Maywood defenders,

pouring in a game-high 29 points, helping the Eagles improve their record to

3-1.

Hawk girls lose close game

The Chief Kanim eighth grade girls’ varsity basketball team lost a

nail biter to Issaquah last week 27-30. Scoring for the Hawks were

Brittany Heaps with 17, Lauren McConkey with three, Shannon Posey with

two and Marie Will with five. Will led in steals with eight and McConkey

led in rebounds with nine. Heaps had a career game, hitting five of six

from the foul line, racking up five steals, four rebounds and dropping in

17 points. Others in the game were Amy Stauch, Emily White and

Randall Hawk.

Issaquah led most of the game, but the Hawks pulled ahead a bit in

the fourth. However, with Posey and Heaps fouling out, the team

couldn’t hang on. Heaps was selected offensive player of the game. Posey, Will

and McConkey were selected defensive players of the game. Marissa Hill

was selected as best off the bench.

Pine Lake drops Hawks

The Chief Kanim eighth grade varsity girls’ basketball team took on

Pine Lake in the best game of the season so far. The lead changed hands

many times in a seesaw battle, but when the dust cleared, Pine Lake came out

on top 36-32.

Scoring for the Hawks were Emilie Aaltonan with one, Brittany

Heaps with eight, Lauren McConkey with seven, Shannon Posey with five

and Marie Will with 11. Marissa Hill, Michelle Avery and Amy Stauch

were also a big part of the game.

McConkey led the team in rebounds with eleven and blocked

shots with two. Posey led in steals with five.

“Pine Lake is an exceptional team and we played very well

against them,” said coach Dick Kirby.

“Like always, we were oversized but everyone worked very hard. We are

developing a very consistent starting team and a bench to help,” he added.

Marie Will and Lauren McConkey were selected offensive players of

the game. Shannon Posey, Brittany Heap and Marie Will were selected as

defensive players of the game. Marissa Hill and Emilie Aaltonan were

selected best off the bench.
