SMS puts Thunder in a bottle

The Snoqualmie Middle School eighth-grade varsity football team dominated both sides of the ball in its game against visiting Thunder Mountain, which resulted in a 30-0 victory.

Zach Sumner laid some vicious hits on offense, while Cody Hyatt ran through and over defenders, scoring on three touchdown runs. Kyle Meuli scampered for a touchdown run of his own, with Beau Davis connecting for three extra point kicks.

With Kyle Meyers stuffing any inside threat, Levi Nelson and Tanner Powers collected a pair of interceptions, enabling the Eagles to roll on to it’s second win of the season and go 2-0.

Hawks roll to second victory

The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks varsity football team hosted White River at Mount Si on Wednesday, Oct. 3, winning 14-12.

The Hawks started from the opening kickoff with Stu Trombley making the most of his carries. Their Hawks’ drive was stopped, forcing a punt. White River soon found out that the Hawk defense was for real, as Nick Dietsch intercepted a White River pass and took it the distance for a touchdown. The kick failed and the Hawks led 6-0.

The second quarter again showcased the tough Hawks defense, as CKMS continually shut down the Hornets. Chief Kanim’s Trombley broke free and galloped for the Hawks’ second score. Trombley’s extra point was good, and the Hawks led at half-time, 14-0.

In the second half, White River took the kickoff for the distance, tightening the game 14-6. Chief Kanim moved the ball, but was unable to score in the third quarter. The fourth quarter proved to be a wild affair as the Hornets scored again, but missing their extra point.

The score at this point was 14-12. Cory Lindberg had an excellent kickoff return, and the Hawks were able to move the ball as time was running out. Eric Forslin had some powerful runs to move the chains and seal the victory for the 2-0 Hawks. Defensively, Tylor Littlejohn, Brandon Reaves, Dane Portscheller and Eric Forslin dominated.

Hawks move to 3-0

The Chief Kanim Middle School varsity football team used a balanced attack and a dominating defense to beat a big and tough Ford team 8-0. But the score didn’t paint a complete picture, as the Hawks continually threatened and moved the ball.

Chief Kanim drove down the field on their its drive and got into field-goal range. Stu Trombley had a strong boot from 30 yards out, but the kick was a hair wide. The Hawks went back to work on defense and shut the Ford offense down cold.

On the ensuing drive, CKMS kept the defense off-guard, mixing its plays effectively. Tylor Littlejohn threw a touchdown pass to Greg Beckmann for a 6-0 lead. Stu Trombley drilled the extra point and CKMS led 8-0.

Throughout the second half, the Hawk defense continued to shine, as Ford was shut down again and again. The final score was 8-0, as Chief Kanim won their its straight. Catching passes for the Hawks were Greg Beckmann (3), Dane Portscheller (2), Nick Dietsch (1) and Corey Lindberg (1). Brandon Reaves also intercepted a pass late in the game.

Chief Kanim’s coaches were especially pleased with the effort, as CKMS had no penalties. The officials complimented the team on discipline and sportsmanship. Chief Kanim faces an undefeated Enumclaw team Wednesday, Oct. 17. The game will most likely be played at SMS, as Chief Kanim’s field is still under construction.

SMS defense stifles White River

In a battle to remain undefeated, the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles eighth-grade football team relied on its tenacious defense to earn a hard-fought victory over visiting White River, 12-8.

Though down 8-0 early in the game, the Eagles, behind the front pillars of Jacob Wirth, Brad Lear, Cody Hyatt and Zach Sumner on defense, refused to allow White River to gain any offensive momentum. Alex Kellerman picked off a pass and rumbled through tacklers for a 40-yard return. With Kyle Meuli directing the offense and adding to his own rushing records, the team ignited for two scores in the second and third quarter to earn the victory.

Sumner pounded the middle, while Hyatt ran through defenders en route to two touchdown runs as the Eagles improved to 3-0.
