Hawks drop game to Enumclaw

The Chief Kanim Middle School varsity football team hosted Enumclaw last week, but lost 14-8.

Chief Kanim immediately marched down the field with one of their best drives of the season. Thomas Hunt was running wild and took the ball in for a touchdown. The extra point was booted by Ryan Dix and the Hawks led a tough Enumclaw team 8-0.

Enumclaw answered later in the half and tied the score at 8-8.

In the second half it was a see-saw battle. Enumclaw finally scored on a fourth-and-goal play. The extra point failed and the score was 14-8. Chief Kanim tried to answer, but couldn’t quite pull it out.

The Hawks’ defense was outstanding as Colin Alexander and TJ Faroro made several super plays. Hunt, Jake Tweeten, Eric Ward, Zach Kirchmeyer, Blake Hepner and others were laying solid hits every play. Dallas Liebe played his usual smart game and helped the team in many situations. Hunt also rushed for more than 100 yards on 11 carries.


Cross Country team improves

The Snoqualmie Middle School cross country team recently competed in two meets. The first was held at Beaver Lake Middle School where the Eagles’ team was greatly outnumbered. Drake daPonte took first in the seventh- and eighth-grade competition with Owen Strom finishing in second place and Shawn Paskey finishing fifth. All three posted personal best times. Matthew Lynne, Isaac Farrar and Devin Aberle all had personal best times as well.

Eighth-graders Heidi Hall and Ashley Wright both had personal best times in their races. The sixth-grade boys’ team had a good showing with Brett Duncan taking first place as well as achieving a personal best. Peter Haas, Adam Ransavage, Chase Adams and Matt Prewett all had personal best times at the meet. The sixth-grade girls won their meet. Megan past took first, Suzye Carroll took third, Gabby Rader took fourth and Ashley Cleary took fifth. All the girls had personal best times.

Next the Eagles hosted Chief Kanim. It was a very blustery day but the teams ran hard. The seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ team won their meet with daPonte taking first, Strom finishing second, Andrew Klausing finishing fourth, Lynne taking sixth, Farrar taking ninth and Devin Aberle finishing strong. Klausing posted a personal best time.

Heidi Hall was the only eighth-grade girl runner and took first place. Duncan took first place for the sixth-grade boys. Haas took fifth and Ransavage took sixth. Adams, Ryan Simpson and Prewett all finished strong.

The sixth-grade girls’ team were led by Megan Past who came in third, Suzye Carroll fifth, Rader sixth, Alyssa Melin seventh and Ashley Cleary eighth. The Eagles finish up their season at the league meet on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Lake Sammamish State Park.


Hawks tackle Tacoma

The Chief Kanim Middle School junior varsity football team traveled to Tacoma last week where they defeated a Hudtloff team 48-0. The Hawk s’defense smothered Hudtloff, keeping them off of the scoreboard. The Hawks’ offense spread the wealth around getting everyone in the scoring column.

Joey Evans had three carries for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Tyson Riley had 75 yards and one touchdown while teammate Zach Guyer had 30 yards and a touchdown. Spencer MacEwan had 32 yards and a touchdown along with Chad Billings, who had 73 yards and a touchdown.

Alex Hiebert finished off the offense with 50 yards rushing. R.W. Johnston kicked one extra point and Evans had two. The Hawks’ defense was lead by Morgan “Morg-Dog” Jordan, CJ Emerson and Mike Nelson with seven tackles each. Luke Dietsch, Greg Hustead and Nick “The Ferminator” Ferland each had five tackles. The Hawks are now 5-0.


SMS squashes Tolt

The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles beat Tolt 6-0 in seventh-grade football action. The previous week Tolt beat SMS 32-13. Dane Smith, tailback for the Eagles, scored the only touchdown in the first quarter. The Eagles controlled the ball for most of the game. Tolt was close to scoring but never got it in the end zone. In the fourth quarter, Michael Davenport playing linebacker intercepted the ball. But the Eagles fumbled to add to the drama of the game. Sean Snead had a complete game offensively and defensively, getting tackles and hits on Tolt.
