Tolt wins game against Hawks
After a bit of a slow start, Tolt Middle School girl’s basketball team raced to a victory over the hard-working Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks. The T-Birds shot a respectable 41 percent in the second half and only committed three turnovers. The final score was 51-8.
Point guard Kylie Schoenbachler had only one turnover for the game and she and Emma Worden scored 10 points, with each having seven steals. Tolt’s three post players, Betsy Anderson, eight points, Becky Gray, six points, and Kristin McKinlay, four blocks, all played good defense while committing only two fouls between them.
“Overall it was a good win in the fact that everyone got considerable playing time and eight different girls scored. The players know we all have a lot of work to do to attain our goals,” said Tolt coach Vern Hough. “We were happy with the outcome of the game considering it was our first outing.”
Eagles win two
The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh-grade varsity girls’ basketball team came away with two impressive wins last week, improving their record to 6-1. In the game of the week against previously unbeaten Pine Lake, the Eagles put on a dazzling display of basketball skills. Undaunted by taller opponents, the Eagles used the tenacious defensive pressure of Jordyn Wilson, Maegan Welcome and Caitie Richards to force early Wolverine turnovers. Danielle Crabtree turned in her best performance of the year, battling for the boards, stuffing numerous shots and contributing eight points off the glass. As the fourth and final quarter began, Snoqualmie used the combination of teamwork and tenacity and began to wear down Pine Lake. Wilson continued to apply pressure on defense and her soft touch from the first half persisted, hitting from outside and inside, allowing her to finish in double figures with 11 points. As the game wound down, the Wolverines also were having a difficult time trying to stop Richards who connected from the floor and then hit nothing but net from the foul line as she poured in eight for the quarter and 12 for the game. With time expiring, Richards stepped up with three, effectively shutting the door on Pine Lake. Rachel Nyberg, Daionda Davis and Amy Martin rounded out the scoring for a 37-28 win.
Against Beaver Lake, the Eagles used a stifling defense led by the aggressive hustle of Kelsey Walker and Maegan Welcome and held the Bulldogs to 12 in the first half. The Eagles came out firing in the second half, and cruised to a 34 -23 victory, led by the one-two combo of Wilson’s 11 and Richard’s 12.
