‘Best of the year’ for CKMS

Chief Kanim’s eighth-grade varsity basketball team took a slice out of Beaver Lake Middle School on March 15. Eric Tierney was on fire, scoring 27 points for Chief Kanim. Josh Griffith followed closely behind with 18 points and Marc Donnell had eight points. Coach Chad Boyer said they were down by 15 points at the half and then made their big comeback. He also said it was their best game of the year. The final score was 63-59.

Beaver Lake bows to CKMS

The seventh-grade Chief Kanim basketball team recorded a 59-38 point win over Beaver Lake on March 15. Ryan Reilly led with 18 points, Dayne Portscheller had 12 and Nick Dietsch scored 10.

Eagles lose in nail-biter

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s eighth-grade boys varsity basketball team played the Issaquah Panthers March 15. Coach Brad Hillard said the final score of 60-58 was not decided until the last few seconds of the game. The Eagles fought hard against the Panthers with Aaron Caldwell’s rebounding effort, and Zach Elmore’s three-pointers from the outside. They also used a well-balanced scoring attack and bounced back from numerous deficits, including one late in the fourth quarter when Elmore nailed a three-pointer which brought the score to 59-58. But the Panthers hit a free throw and let the clock run out before Snoqualmie had the chance to score again. Elmore scored 17 points, Zach Bowen brought in 16, Derek Donah had 12 and Chadwell rounded out the score with 11 points.

Hawks cream Maywood

The Chief Kanim seventh-graders defeated a scrappy Maywood team last Wednesday. The Hawks started the game off quickly with an aggressive press and an effective fast break. Ryan Reilly led with 17 points and had four assists, Stu Trombley plunked down 10 points and six rebounds. Tylor Littlejohn, Nick Dietsch and Gregg Beckmann each sunk eight points for the Hawks’ 69-38 win. Dayne Portscheller had six points and three assists, Remo Castagno scored five points and hustled two assists, Timmy Coleman sunk four points and Corey Londberg rounded out the points with three. This win brings the Hawks to 7-1.

A wet ‘Battle of the Birds’

This season’s first “Battle of the Birds” girl’s soccer game was fought March 15 on the new field at Snoqualmie Middle School. Ready to defend against cross-town rivals in the streaming rain, the Eagles took to the field and grabbed possession of the ball. Although consistent pressure was maintained in front of the Hawk goal, the Eagles were unable to score during the first half. They started the second half of the game down by a goal, but again dominated in ball possession with a goal by Whitney Chelgren. Mid-fielders Kayla Jayne and Bethany Jackson were exceptional in their ball-handling dominance, along with forward Amy Trenkamp. Defenders Vanessa Scalzo and Carly Lebengood played vicious defense, thwarting the Hawks from penetrating the Eagle side of the field. Unfortunately, the Hawks answered with a break-away scoring drive, and the Eagles left the field with a 1-2 loss.

Close one for Snoqualmie

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s eighth-grade basketball team played another game that supplied non-stop action right down to the buzzer last Tuesday against Beaver Lake. Aaron Chadwell was the chairman of the boards, grabbing a game high 15 rebounds to go along with 15 points. It was another balanced scoring attack with Derek Donah dishing out assists while swishing in 13, matched by Zach Elmore’s 13 and Zach Bowen adding 10. The game came down to free throws with Beaver Lake connecting on two to win 54-50.
