Hawks drop game to Enumclaw
The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade football team traveled
to Enumclaw last week, but came away with a 29-8 loss.
The first quarter was a defensive battle and ended at 0-0. In the
second quarter Enumclaw drew first blood, scoring a touchdown and an
extra point to take an 8-0 lead. Chief Kanim threatened in the quarter, but was
shut out and the half ended at 8-0.
In the second half Enumclaw pounded the ball, as their huge
linemen wore down the smaller Chief Kanim team. The Hawks did get
on the board in the second half as Marc Donnell hit Kory Khile for a
52-yard touchdown reception. Chris Nevins kicked the extra point.
The final score ended at 29-8, although the game was much closer
then the score indicates. Kenny Casem, Zach Elmer and Jason Miller led
JV loses to Lochburn
Though the Snoqualmie Middle School’s JV football team never
gave up and battled hard, the quicker and bigger Lochburn team proved to be
too much for the Eagles, who recorded a 21-7 loss. The Eagles had
their chances to make it a closer game, but two separate fumbles, one on the
6-yard line and one of the 12-yard line, proved costly. Yet, a 25-yard run
by Cody Hyatt late in the fourth quarter was a bright spot for the team.
Eight grade volleyball off and running
The eighth-grade girls’ volleyball team at Chief Kanim is off to a
hard-fought start of the season. The Lady Hawks currently have a record of
two wins, two losses. Emily White has played well at the net, covering
dinks and anticipating blocks. She is also the most fearsome of servers.
Brittany Heaps, Emilie Aaltonen and White lead the team in serving and
on-serve receives. The Lady Hawks show some great “off the bench rallies” with
the aid of Linsey Austin and Alisha Galaencu. The next home game is
Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
