Track teams fall to Beaver Lake
The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ track teams each lost their meets last week against Beaver Lake.
In the first meet of the season, there were some good showings for the eighth-graders, including two first-place finishes, four second-place finishes and four third-place finishes.
The 4×200-meter team consisting of Tanner Powers, Jason Townzen, Cody Hyatt and Brian Mauhl took first in that event. Levi Nelson was first in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 inches. Chris Brennan took second in the hurdles, while Hyatt took second in the 200 meters.
Mauhl took second in the shot put and Powers took second in the long jump. Third-place finishes went to: Hyatt in the 100-meter dash, Jordan Lamborn in the 400-meter run, Hyatt again in the discus and Jason Townzen in the high jump.
The seventh-grade boys also lost to Beaver Lake but not without showing off some of their talents. The team recorded five first-place finishes, one second-place finish and six third-place finishes. There were also two top 10 record breakers, with Justice Manson winning the 100-meter race in a time of 12.9 seconds and Daniel Floyd recording a first in the mile.
Other first-place finishes went to Manson in the 200-meter run, Adam Davies in the shot put and the 4×200-meter team consisting of Manson, Davies, Brian Johnson and Marshall Lloyd. The one second-place finish went to Aaron Nichter in the 1,600-meter run. Third-place finishers were Keith Keller in the hurdles, discus and high jump and Johnson in the 200 meter. Floyd also placed third in the 1,600 meters, and Aaron Nichter placed third in the 800 meters.
SMS, CKMS go head to head
The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles girls’ track-and-field teams hosted the Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks last week at Mount Si High School, losing two of the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade matchups.
In the second meet of their season, the eighth-grade Eagles walked away with a 59-44 win. The team took 10 of the 13 top finishes.
Jordan Tipton led the effort with four first-place finishes. She won the 100 and 200 meters, long jump and anchored the 4×200-meter relay.
Other first-place finishers were Tove Garhart in the 1,600 meters, Chelsie Eddings in the hurdles, Alina Plavsky in the discus and Krista Tollefson in the high jump.
All SMS relay teams ran to first-place finishes as well. Second-place finishers were Collette Hatch in the 400, and sisters Tara and Chelsie Eddings tied in the high jump.
Third-place finishes went to Sarah Travis in the discus, C. Eddings in the 400 meters, T. Eddings in the 200 meters and Plavsky in the shot put.
The seventh-grade girls meet was down to the wire with a four-point difference between the two teams. The Hawks won 54-50.
Daniella Carlson won the high jump and all three SMS relay teams took first-place finishes.
Second-place finishes went to Anika Granillo in the hurdles, Katie Stapleton in the 1,600 meters, Tephra Brune in the shot put, Kayla Grant in the long jump and Kassie Kramer in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Thirds came from Granillo in the 100-meter, Grant in the 200-meter, Patterson in the shot put, Stapleton in the long jump and Miranda Kole in the high jump.
The sixth-grade Eagles were outnumbered by the Hawks on their way to the 70-35 loss.
Marianna Zanella led the way by winning the hurdles as well as anchoring the winning 4×200-meter relay team of April Keogh, Kelcey Simpson and Kelsey Wise.
Keogh took a first in the long jump, while Tana Thompson ran the 1,600 meters in 6 minutes, 33.7 seconds, also good for first place.
Taking second place were Zanella in the shot put and Simpson in the 800-meter. Thirds came from Wise in the 400-meter and long jump, and Xilee Olson in the discus.
