Junior pitcher Mike Lindor, in his first varsity start, struck out 12 Interlake hitters and sophomore infielder Tyler Starkel hit his first home run of his high-school career as the Mount Si Wildcats continued their impressive start with a 3-1 win over the Saints in the long-delayed Kingco 3A conference baseball home opener.
The win moved Mount Si to 5-1 in Kingco 3A play and awaiting showdown with the league leader Newport High School.
“Outstanding first varsity start. Showed a lot of poise for his first game,” said Mount Si coach Gary McGregor as the Wildcats moved into a tie for second place with the Newport Knights.
It was Lindor’s curveball that seemed to baffle the Inerlake hitters throughout the game.
“[It] felt good. [I was] just working on that curve ball, [I] threw it a lot today [and was] successful,” said Lindor, who gave up one unearned run on six hits and one walk in the complete game effort.
