SNOQUALMIE – From now until Christmas, one can complete their holiday shopping, perform an act of benevolence for their fellow man and grab a latte all in one place: Bibo Coffee Co.
The “Christmas Tree: Jazz Waltzes & Things” CD is now on sale at the Snoqualmie Ridge coffeehouse for $17.
The CD features Valley string bassist Chris Clark and Seattle-area jazz vocalist Primo Kim in a festive array of holiday favorites. A portion of each sale will go to benefit the Tanner Jeans Memorial Fund.
Jeans was a 7-year-old boy killed in a bicycle/car accident last summer. A portion of the money raised from the CDs will go to help build a park in his name.
The album includes mostly vocal pieces as well as a few instrumentals by a full-size brass band and a smaller jazz combo. Clark began playing string bass at age 11. Now the 64-year-old man plays professionally full time at the Pampas Room in Seattle. He’s also played frequently at El Gaucho Steakhouse in Belltown, on Bob Hope Christmas Tours, with the Les Brown Orchestra, Vic Demone and many other famous musical acts.
Clark said he wanted to do the CD fund raiser because he’s “part of the community.” Clark’s son-in-law and daughter are friends with Jeans’ parents. “Everybody up here is pretty much interrelated,” Clark said.
The CD is a balance of up tempo and down tempo jazz renditions of Christmas classics such as “Christmas Time Is Here” (from the Charlie Brown Christmas special), “My Favorite Things,” “A Cradle In Bethlehem,” “What Are You Doing New Years Eve?,” “Let It Snow” and many others.
Tanner Jeans’ mother, Christen Jeans, said she feels very thankful to have Valley residents interested in helping to keep her son’s memory alive.
“We feel very blessed to have wonderful neighbors that are so generous and these are people we’ve never met before. Tanner would be thrilled to know that people cared this much,” she said.
