Newport defeats Cedarcrest girls
The Newport Knights girls’ basketball team handed
the Cedarcrest Red Wolves a tough loss last week, 46-42, giving
the Red Wolves a nine-win, four-loss record. Scoring for the
Red Wolves were Sarah Gustat with 16, Lindsay Peterson with 11,
Libbye Haddon with nine, Amber Sutter with three, Rachel Salz
with two and Nikki Neilson with one.
b>Wildcat girls drop game to Islanders
The Islanders had been tough for the Mount Si boys last
week on the road, but the home stand for the girls was just as
difficult as Mercer Island defeated the Wildcats 42-36 and moved to
an 8-5 record overall. The Wildcats held onto the Valley
division-lead with a 10-3 overall record.
The Wildcats offense struggled most of the game,
with few shots actually finding twine. Moriah Hover, normally
scoring well into the 20-point range, was held to 12, as was teammate
Nicci Landeck. Hover also contributed 15 rebounds. Other Wildcats
scoring were Lizzie Finnegan with four, Angela Jones with four,
Cari Smith with two and Landa Pastrana with two.
Issaquah upends Red Wolves
The Cedarcrest Red Wolves girls’ basketball team faced a
determined Issaquah squad last week, losing 56-42.
Scoring for the Red Wolves were Libbye Haddon with
23, Sarah Gustat with eight, Rachel Salz with four, Angeuli
Brady with three, Lindsey Peterson with two and Nikki Neilson
with two.The loss moves the Red Wolves to third in the Valley
division behind Mount Si and Sammamish. They have a
league record of 2-5, and an overall record of 9-5.
Mount Si squeaks win over Knights
Mount Si once again came through in fine form as the
girls’ basketball team defeated the Newport Knights 38-32 last week.
Moriah Hover led the offensive efforts with 17 points,
followed by Nicci Landeck with 13. Angela Jones had four,
Kristen Travis two, Lizzie Finnegan one and Cari Smith one. The
win keeps Mount Si in the lead for the Valley division with a
5-2 league record and an 11-3 overall record.
