Cedarcrest High School sophomore forward Kimmi Drew shook off cold weather to score a natural hat trick, leading the Red Wolves to a 3-0 victory over the Mount Si Wildcats in Kingco 3A girls’ soccer action last Thursday in Duvall. The victory clinched the Valley Division Championship for the Red Wolves and capped a frustrating season for Mount Si.

Drew opened her scoring onslaught with a goal in the 13th minute, off a pass from junior midfielder Chloe Christman. Drew then received a pass in the 47th minute from fellow sophomore forward Amanda Sparks for goal number two. In the 65th minute, she took a pass from fellow sophomore midfielder Ashley Stimpson to close out the scoring. Red Wolves goalkeeper junior Jessica Sode stopped four shots to earn the shutout.

The hard-fought game was delayed twice. In the 30th minute, Wildcat senior midfielder Kelsie Owen collided hard with Sode going for a ball. Owen fell face-first to the turf and lay motionless for a brief time. She recovered and left under her own power.

Play was stopped again in the 59th minute after a foul was called on Mount Si star junior forward Kristen Berndt. The referee assessed a yellow card to Berndt, which set off a heated argument between the Wildcats’ sideline and the referee. The argument resulted in red cards and automatic ejections to Mount Si assistant coach Glenn Cramer and senior midfielder Jessica Hannah. Berndt stayed in the game and after a delay of several minutes, play continued.
