City Council backs railway museum project

SNOQUALMIE – The Snoqualmie City Council unanimously approved permits needed by the Northwest Railway Museum to build a controversial Conservation and Restoration Center (CRC).

The 5-0 vote came at a special meeting of the City Council on Sept. 16. The council needed to approve a decision made by a hearing examiner earlier this year that granted two variances and a conditional use permit (CUP) to the museum – each was needed to build the 8,180-square-foot CRC. The building would allow visitors to watch the restoration of train engines and cars. Currently, restoration is performed by Northwest Train Museum workers in front of the organization’s building in historic downtown Snoqualmie.
