All indications are that a solid core of returning players will help the Mount Si Wildcats boys’ basketball team improve on last year’s 7-13 performance when they hit the boards this winter.
Coach Garrick Phillips returns for his 10th season at the helm of the program, along with a contingent of returning players that includes junior Jeremy Johnston, described by Phillips as potentially the “most dominant big man in the (Kingco) league,” and senior Logan Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe is a three-year letter winner who saw action as a freshman when Mount Si made an impressive run at the state tournament. Senior Chris Lyle and sophomore Erik Tierney, both of whom also return, also are expected to see action this winter.
Phillips sees a lot of flexibility with his team.
“We’re going to be able to defend in a variety of ways, we’re going to be able to score in a variety of ways,” said Phillips. “We have a lot of athleticism where we can run and press a little bit offensively and defensively. We can do a lot of things there, and we can sit back and play a zone because we have a lot of size also. We have a really good mix of athleticism and size which is going to be very nice.” said Phillips.
