Commissioner

is right on target

North Bend resident William Johnson, who is also a parks

commissioner for the city, recently won first place at the annual Washington

State Blue Face Archery Tournament. The competition was held at Silver

Arrow Bowman Archery Range in Mount Vernon last month.

He has been shooting for 20 years.

Wildcats train

in Arizona

The Snoqualmie Wildcats 13-year-old baseball team recently

returned home after spending four days in Tucson, Ariz. The team was invited

to participate in a regional tournament that had all-star teams from

Texas, California, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico.

In addition to playing a tournament game daily, the players and

family members enjoyed the sights around Tucson and attended two major

league games that featured the Seattle Mariners. The team stayed in the same

hotel complex that housed the Colorado Rockies major league team.

Most nights found the Snoqualmie players in the game room as guests

of the Rockies players.

The Wildcat’s games were against the defending national champs

from El Paso, Texas, all-star teams from Phoenix and Salt Lake.

The team starts Sandy Koufax league play in April on their

home field at Chief Kanim Middle school.

Players make holes in one

Chris Schatz, 28, of Seattle, made a hole in one on April 7 at the

Mount Si Golf Course in Snoqualmie. He accomplished this first-ever feat

using his 8-iron on the 155-yard eighth hole.

Randy Lake, 52, of Longview, shot his first-ever hole in one on the

same Snoqualmie course on April 8. Lake made the hole in one using his

3-wood on the 184-yard eleventh hole.

Redsox hold-off Rainiers

The Snoqualmie Valley Rainiers mounted a furious rally but fell a

run short in a 12-11 loss to the Mount Lake Terrace Redsox. Super pitching

by Luke Landdeck and Alex VanOeveran in their first outing of the season

held the Redsox to three runs over the last three innings. Their teammates

posted 10 runs falling one short in the end.

Some nice defensive efforts and timely hits helped shave the

eight-run deficit and knotted the game at a 9-9 tie, heading into the fourth inning.

Hitting by Zach Kramar, Nick Sheldon, Jay Lewis and

Jimmy Fleming kept the Redsox at bay. It was a great start to the season with

high expectations that the team will get better.

SVYSA boys soccer tryouts slated

Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association is having tryouts for

boys Under 16 and Under 17 (born on or after Aug. 1, 1983) from 10 to

11:30 a.m. on April 29 and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on April 30 at Snoqualmie

Elementary School. Registration forms will be available at the field

(parent required to sign) and players will need to bring their own water and size

5 soccer ball.
