Hawks win two
The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks seventh- and eighth-grade varsity basketball teams traveled to Snoqualmie Middle School last week, where they picked up two tough wins against the Eagles. The seventh-grade team made key free throws and controlled the boards to earn a 45-38 victory. The eighth-grade team ran their offense effectively and controlled the boards to earn a 43-23 win.
Stars for the seventh-grade team were Trent Riley with 16 points and seven rebounds, Griffin McLain with 15 points and eight rebounds, Blake Gillespie with six points and four rebounds, Austin Hall with four points and four steals, and Eli Gogan with two points.
Eighth-grade stars included Miles Zupan with 13 points and seven rebounds, Charlie Corriveau with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Spencer Anderson with five points, John Farmer with four points, Daniel Besmer with three points, Ross Tassara with two points and Matt Price with two points.
Hawks defeat Eagles
The Chief Kanim Middle School Red Hawks sixth-grade soccer team defeated the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles 4-2 on Thursday, March 13.
The team was led by defensive players Allie Jones, Samantha Sletton, Ivy Paradisses and Katelynn Howland.
Kelsey Lindor, Noelle Stockstad, and Maddy Hutchison played key offensive roles, controlling the ball and working with forwards Kaylie Fode and Leah Corra. Corra scored four goals in the game, while Fode kept constant pressure on the Eagle defense.
Chloe Kraft, Hannah Russell, Gloria Piekarczk, Erin Rylands, Ana Stubing Alexis Newcomb and Ashley Osiadacz also played strong for the Hawks.
Hawks fall to SMS
On Thursday, March 6, the Chief Kanim Middle School Red Hawks soccer team took on a tough Snoqualmie Middle School team.
The Hawks lost 1-0 but were in control of the game. A minor defensive mishap resulted in a goal for the Eagles late in the first half. The Hawks pressured the Eagles with five shots on goal in the second half, but could not capitalize. Offensively, the team was lead by Leah Corra and Kelsey Lindor. Allie Jones and Ivy Paradisses played huge defensive games for the team.
Another successful season on tap for SMS girls’ soccer
The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles girls soccer team continues to amaze. Once again they are on pace to win the Seamount League championship, and in doing so, go undefeated for the second straight year.
The Eagles defeated their Valley rivals, the Chief Kanim Hawks, last Monday 5-0. SMS has been dominant again in 2008, as they only have been scored on twice all season. The Eagles, for their part, have scored 29 goals, and are on pace to break their mark from last year, 38.
Leading this year’s cast is Miranda Rawlings, who is having a stellar start to her campaign. Rawlings leads the team with 12 goals and two assists, and is aiming to break the SMS single season scoring record, set by Mariana Zanella, who scored 16 in 2002. Zanella went on to have a very successful high school career with Mount Si; she will graduate this spring.
Snoqualmie and Chief Kanim will hold their annual game at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at Mount Si High School’s stadium. Parents are invited to come to the game and support the future of Wildcat girls soccer.
