Lazarski named Player of the Week, leads all ACHA Division 2 goalies

Sophomore goaltender Alek Lazarski of the Miners Hockey Club was named Player of the Week by the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference in the last week of November. He also currently leads the rankings for all goaltenders in Division 2 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

In his team’s performance against the University of Texas Longhorns in Austin, Nov. 18 and 19, Lazarski stopped 26 shots for a Friday shutout. The following night, he stopped 25 of 26 for another team win.

Lazarski, of North Bend, is currently studying chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso. He previously skated with the Seattle Totems in the in the Western States Hockey League, and was later traded to the El Paso Rhinos.

Coach Herman commented on Alek’s play, “Alek has been a solid player for us for the past two seasons. He’s definitely our last line of defense and has come up with big stops when we have needed him too. Well-deserved recognition after the two game series in UT getting his first collegiate shutout and stopping 25 of 26 Saturday night.”
