August 3, 2010 · 9:20 AM
North Bend resident Kayleigh Perkins is scheduled to test an unlimited hydroplane at Seattle’s Albert Lee Cup Saturday, Aug. 7, during Seafair.
Perkins will be allowed to test in the national champion U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto unlimited hydroplane with the hopes of landing a full-time ride in next year’s H1 Unlimited series. She tests the craft at 9 a.m. on Lake Washington.
The 22-year-old is eager to drive an unlimited hydroplane, especially for the team she has always dreamed about racing.
“Growing up, I collected everything when the team was called the U-6 Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes,” she said.
“I have always loved to race,” Perkins added. “This will be fun showing everyone I can do this. I’m a very serious competitor. I’m not here for show. I love beating these men.”
