Baseball team nets trio of wins
Mount Si’s baseball team is coming off a three-game winning streak, after a win against Liberty High School at home, Friday, March 27.
Mount Si senior Michael Davenport pitched six solid innings, and the Wildcats took advantage of four Patriot errors to score four runs in a 5-3 victory. Davenport gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out four.
“Davie’s been running more than anybody. It’s his senior year; he’s wanted it real bad,” said Mount Si coach Chaz Carr.
Mount Si’s breakout inning came in the bottom of the second. With Liberty ahead 1-0, Taylor Campbell was hit on the leg by a pitch, then advanced to second on a walk by Frank Tassara. With both Campbell and Tassara on base, sophomore Matt Bankston put down a sacrifice bunt to third base. Liberty’s catcher scooped up the ball and fired a throw to third in an attempt to force out Campbell. The throw sailed into the Mount Si bullpen, allowing both Campbell and Tassara to score and putting the Wildcats up 2-1. Bankston made it to third on the play.
Mount Si’s victory against the Patriots followed up two big efforts against Mercer Island. The Wildcats won 9-3 on the island on Monday, March 23, while on Thursday, March 26, a home run by Campbell lifted Mount Si to a 9-4 victory.
Mount Si’s record is 4-2 overall and 3-2 for the league coming into this week’s games, which finish up with a pair of games against Juanita.
