Kanim grapplers face tough season
December 23, 2008 · Updated 12:42 PM
The first two weeks of competition for the Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks wrestlers have been challenging ones. The team is currently 1-3, but is giving up 30 points per match to forfeits due to a smaller-than-usual turnout, coaching staff told the Valley Record.
Individually, however the Hawks are performing well. Sixth grade wrestlers Cameron McClain and Curtis Handy have undefeated records, and are supported with great efforts from Gunnar Crittenden, Kelly Klupar, Kirk Bateman, and Ben Cosgrove. Seventh grade wrestlers include the talented varsity wrestler Jacob Smith. Paul Bateman, Jacob Black, Drew Cotto, Quinn Oster, James Fleisch, and Adam Husa are relatively new to wrestling, but are making great progress this season. Eighth grade wrestlers are led by undefeated wrestler Shad Schreiber and a group of varsity wrestlers with only one loss so far. Jared Schattenkerk, Bruce Stuart, Tyler Amsler, Joey Cotto, Rigel Kuhn, Max Kenagy, LG Hernandez, Cole Palmer, Torin Weatherbee, Conor Klupar, Alec Holt, Zach Blazevich, and Josh Hamann have all contributed to the varsity effort this season. Timothy Corrie, Davis Glass, and Nathan Whited have also had strong performances for the Hawks.
