Mount Si grad makes impact

Marissa Hill, a freshman for Western Washington University's womens volleyball team who graduated from Mount Si High School in June, made an immediate impact in her first four college matches last weekend in Florida.

According to a WWU news release, in the first match Saturday, the Vikings used a match-high 20 kills from Hill to defeat the defending NCAA Division II national womens volleyball champion Barry University of Florida in five games. Scores were 30-26, 27-30, 30-28, 23-30, and 19-17.

In the second contest on Saturday, Hill and fellow teammate and former Kingco rival Sarah Primrose of Issaquah each had a match-high 11 kills as Western easily swept Nova Southeastern University in three games.

In the first game on Sunday Hill continued to make her mark with a match-high 16 kills and five aces on serve in a four-game victory over Dowling of New York. In the second game Sunday afternoon Hill again led the team in kills with 15, but Barry avenged its Saturday loss to the Vikings by defeating Western in four games.

The Saturday matches, part of the Buccaneer Invitational tournament hosted by Barry, were delayed a day, then had to be moved off the southern Florida school's campus due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which swept through the area late last week.

Mount Si fans who want to see Hill in action with her new college team can catch her this weekend as WWU competes in a tournament hosted by Seattle Pacific University. There will be a pair of games each on Friday and Saturday at SPU. Game times both days are at 11:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
