Wrestlers host tournament

The Mount Si Wildcat wrestling team took second in the annual David Szczepanik Takedown Tournament held at Mount Si last Saturday. Cedarcrest placed first with 332 points, followed by the Wildcats, who took second with 302 points. Kentridge took third with 186 points, Newport fourth with 154 points, Kennedy fifth with 144 points and Hazen sixth with 128 points.

For individual placings, the Wildcats Ryan Makala took first at 103 pounds with 42 points. He was followed by teammate Kyle Heath who took first at 112 pounds. At 125 pounds, Joe Taklo took third with 30 points and teammate Jacob Lund took second at 130 pounds with 12 points. At 135 pounds, Stuart Hallock took first with 28 points. At 140 pounds, Dallas Liebe took third for Mount Si with 28 points. At 145 pounds, Jay Dochnahl took third for the Wildcats and teammate Mac Donnell took second at 160 pounds. At 171 pounds, Derreck Hannaman took third place for the Wildcats with 48 points. Seth Merritt won first place at 189 pounds, with 26 points followed by teammate Cary Purchase with 22 points. At 215 pounds, the Wildcats took the top three spots with Dex Moetului winning with 48 points, Jack Stinnett taking second with 30 points and Hunter Woldseth third with 14 points. Finally at 275 pounds, Jeff Chapman took third place for the Wildcats with 14 points.

Cedarcrest's Dan Claussen won the Bruce Caldwell Outstanding Wrestler Award, named after the former coach who passed away earlier this year after a long fight with cancer. The Szczepanik tournament is named after a former Wildcat wrestler who was killed in a car accident in the winter of 1998.
