SMS wrestlers have strong season
The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles' wrestling team completed their season on Jan. 21 with a strong performance in the Foothills League varsity finals at Issaquah High School. The Eagles were led by team captain Lars Swenson, who captured the 105-pound championship by pinning his opponent in the second period.
Other top performers were Colton Lewis, who took fourth at 110 pounds; Kendal Dressel ,who placed sixth at 115 pounds; and Jon Hagedorn, who placed sixth in the 130-pound division.
Head coach Woodroe Kiser was extremely proud of his team's effort all season.
"We were short on numbers this year [only 11 varsity wrestlers], but we were loaded with heart and determination," said Kiser. "Every wrestler gave a hundred percent every time they walked onto the mat and that's all you can ask for."
SMS had one junior varsity champion in Tony Gaudio in the 110-pound weight class. Sixth-grade wrestlers with strong showings included Rylee Iacolucci, James Farnsworth, Brian Copeland, Joe Bos, Cody Webb and Henry Owens.
"All of the sixth-graders showed a lot of promise and that should translate into more success for Snoqualmie in the near future," said Kiser.
