The North Bend Storm, girls' U14 recreational soccer team recently won the District II championship and is now headed to the state tournament in Shelton Dec. 2 and 3. The title game was held at Mount Si High School last Tuesday night, Nov. 21. The girls won 1-0 on a goal by Andrea Volken with less than three minutes to play to beat the Inferno Chicks from Kirkland.
The Storm is a recreational soccer team consisting of players from North Bend and Snoqualmie. Some of these girls have been playing on this team since 2000 and have been coached by Tom Chase, Kevin Riley and Dewey Duvall. They will take a record of 14-2 into the state tournament next week. They have outscored opponents this year 63 to 12 and have only allowed one goal in the recent march through the President's Cup Tournament thanks in large part to outstanding goaltending by Carly Weidenbach and tenacious defense anchored by Maggie Burrows, Genna Magnan, Alana Foster, Tabby Rollins and Winter Sutton.
The Storm advanced to the championship game by defeating a previously undefeated team from Kirkland called the Sharks, 2-0. Aubrey Larion and Haley Chase scored the goals and Stevie Riley, Megan Stone, Daylee Hames and Amber Boyce controlled the midfield. Tandi Duvall and Hannah Langston along with Bailey Barnard and Danielle Clark kept constant pressure on the Sharks defense. It was sweet revenge as the Sharks had beaten the girls earlier in the regular season.
