Wildcats playing like a contender
The Mount Si volleyball squad opened the week last Wednesday night with a key test against the Skyline Spartans that turned into the match that most had been expecting: a very close, entertaining encounter with great action on both sides. However, for the Wildcats, the Spartans proved to be too much in the end as they swept in three very exciting games by the scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 26-24.
"It was definitely a good match for us and the girls played well, and they did what they had to do to win the game," said Spartans' coach Mark Peterson.
Skyline started out game one with the lead and stayed in front most of the way. Mount Si, though, kept things close and the Wildcats made their charge late. With Mackenzie Peerboom on serve, Mount Si rallied to tie the game 19-19 before Skyline took the lead back on a kill. However, the Wildcats made another charge to re-tie it at 22-22, then took the lead briefly on one of several key kills by Miranda Pratt. It appeared Mount Si was on its way to finishing it off, but the Spartans responded and closed the deal themselves with a kill by Lindsey Kim.
