Mount Si whallops Garfield Bulldogs
As was expected, last Friday's Wildcat football game with Garfield was an opportunity for Mount Si coach Charlie Kinnune to let some of his reserves get quality playing time and many of them stepped up as the Wildcats easily handled the 4A Bulldogs from Seattle.
Tyson Riley ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as Mount Si doubled up Garfield 48-24 in a game that was pretty much done at halftime.
"This is a good night. We kind of let some things go at the end, but we were in command and I thought we looked sharp on offense when we needed to look sharp and did some good things, so we're going to be all right," said Kinnune.
Special teams were a big concern after the loss to Issaquah, but a strong play by that unit in the first quarter set up the first score for Mount Si as Evan Aaltonen returned a Bulldog punt back to the Garfield 26-yard line. Riley then did the rest on the next play, running it all the way in from that spot for Mount Si's first touchdown of the night. A strong ground drive early in the second quarter finished off well as Jake Handy punched it in from just inches out to help put the 'Cats up 14-0.
