Tennis team faults to Sammamish
BELLEVUE - The Mount Si girls' tennis team lost its first match last Tuesday to Sammamish 8-1.
Cristina Boals was seeded in the No. 1 spot to play Russy Graterol, a girl who seemed to have what it took to keep Boals from winning even one set.
Graterol's powerful serve and precise swing of the racket overpowered Boals who lost both sets 6-0, 6-0.
The second singles match also did not go so well for Emily Pizzuto. She was defeated by Sammamish's Vy Duong, who was able to get more balls past Pizzuto, winning 6-4, 6-2. Jaclyn Boals also lost her singles match in two sets against Xenia Nosov of Sammamish. The score of the first set was 6-0 and the second set was 6-4.
In the first doubles match, sisters Cristina and Jaclyn Boals teamed up against their singles opponents, Graterol and Duong, defeating them in the first and third sets, 6-4 and 6-3. This was the only match Mount Si won against the mighty Sammamish team.
Pizzuto and Erin Vassar played the second doubles match against Sammamish's Ashley Fermin and Julie Hong, losing 6-0 and 6-3.
In other singles matches, Sarah Coffey lost 6-4 and 6-0 in sets against Ashley Fermin. Erin Vassar and Taryn Ellison were defeated in two sets against Brandt Harryman and Hong. And Lauren Stevenson and Elise Ellison were defeated in the final doubles match 6-2 in both sets.
Mount Si matches up with Interlake at home on March 29.
