Issaquah doubles up Mount Si
Issaquah High School's Devin Halperin had a stellar game, scoring twice and adding assists on two goals, as the Indians defeated the Mount Si 4-2 in the Wildcats' Kingco 3A conference boys' soccer home opener last week.
Wildcat forwards sophomore Yosef Yetneberk, and junior Dan Barnes, each had a goal and assist to lead the Wildcats' attack, but whenever Mount Si got close Halperin and his team answered.
"We worked hard. We put in, you know. We did have some momentum there," said Wildcats' coach Tom Bialek. "We had two different times where we closed the game within a goal, but to their credit they took advantage of their opportunities. We pushed a lot of people forward, and when we did that you're going to give some things up in the back."
The scoring started in the seventh minute of play when Ben Reinhardsen put the Indians on top first. Reinhardsen picked up the rebound of a shot which was blocked by Mount Si senior goalkeeper Eddie Becker, then slammed it into the back of the Mount Si net to put Issaquah up 1-0.
