'Cats step into next round at districts

Six Mount Si track men and women will advance to the Sea-King district track meet. For the women, leading the charge to districts will be Kristen Berndt who threw the javelin 128 feet to place second in the competition. The throw was also a personal record for Berndt. Berndt will also compete in the 100 hurdles at district after placing third with a new personal best time of 16.1 seconds. Just missing the district field by two positions, she also placed seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.6 seconds.

Piper Sherbon will also be heading to districts in two events. She placed second in the triple jump with a new school record of 37 feet, 2 1/2 inches, finishing just two inches behind last year's state leader in the event. Sherbon will also be competing in the shot after taking fourth with a toss of 34 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Teammate Caitlin Braun just missed the field for districts in the shot with a toss of 33 feet, 10 inches for sixth place.

In the javelin, Shannon Posey threw 117 feet to place fifth and earn a seat to the district meet.

The 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams of Kali Roestel, Kali Walker, Jessica Marley and Nicole Remish placed sixth in both events, just missing an opportunity to go to districts. Rostel also placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 10 1/2 inches, and Maggie Olson placed eighth with a distance of 31 feet 5 1/2 inches.

For the mens' team, two athletes qualified for the district meet with several just missing a spot. Brian Lewis qualifeid in two events, the high jump with a height of 5 foot, 10 inches, good enough for third place, and the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 6 inches, good enough for the fifth and final spot.

Tyler Austin placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.39 seconds to earn a district berth.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Lewis, Austin, Adam Rothgeb and Brady Barry placed eighth overall in a time of 47.01 seconds. Rothgeb also placed eighth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.31 seconds. Alex Grazda just missed the field in the high jump, placing sixth.

The Sea-King district meet will be held at Southwest Athletic complex in West Seattle on Wednesday. May 23 and Friday, May 25, with a start time of 3 p.m.
