DUVALL - The Mount Si Wildcats boys' basketball team began its stretch drive toward the postseason with a win over Cedarcrest last Tuesday night in Duvall in the final Kingco 3A game between the two schools. The Red Wolves are leaving Kingco 3A to join a new league next season.
The Wildcats overcame a huge night from Red Wolves' senior center Ross Gomes and, combined with a loss by Issaquah, climbed into a tie for second place in the Valley Division with the Eagles by scoring the 65-53 decision over the Red Wolves. Mount Si got double-doubles from both seniors Luke Landdeck (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Jeremy Johnston (14 points and 11 rebounds) to compliment a huge offensive night for Erik Tierney. The junior scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Mount Si broke open a close game by outscoring Cedarcrest 17-8 in the final quarter to seal the victory.
Gomes' double-double of his own, a game high 24-points, 14-rebound effort, led the Red Wolves. Fellow senior guard Russell McGinnis, who scored 27 against the Wildcats when the two teams played at Mount Si on Jan. 28, was held to only 11 points.
