North Bend resident Katie Somers, soon to be a sophomore at Mount Si High School, was one of four district qualifiers to the Washington Junior Golf Association state tournament this week in Wenatchee. She finished second out of eight golfers in the age 14-15 girl's bracket at last week's district tournament at Sahalee Country Club in Redmond. She shot a 91 and 95 for a total of 186 over the two rounds of the tournament. Somers joined golfers from Bellevue, Bothell and Woodinville as qualifiers out of her age group for girls.

Somers has had a great summer on the golf course thus far, winning three subdistrict events and finishing second in the fourth. She also had a strong showing at a recent event in Tumwater.
