Local gymnasts place at meets

The month of January was full of challenges for girls competing for Gymnastics East. In a match-up against a Cancun team, Preston resident Cassidy McDowell received a 36.200 in all-around, a 9.250 on bars, a 9.300 on beam, a 8.600 on floor and a 9.050 on vault.

On Jan. 29 in a meet against multiple gyms from around the region held at Mount Si High School, several gymnasts from the Valley excelled. In the 8-year-old category, Miah Batton of Fall City placed 13th in the all-around and tied for fifth on the vault, while Mallory Fortier of Snoqualmie placed seventh on the beam and seventh on the vault. Hailey Johnson of North Bend placed 17th in the all-around and 10th on the beam in the event's 9-year-old category, while Sarah Wheeler of Snoqualmie placed sixth on the bars and 10th in the all-around.

In the 10-year-old category, Amanda Dumont of Preston placed 17th on the all-around, and in the 11-year-old age bracket, McDowell placed second in all-around, first on bars, first on floor and third on vault.
