Wildcats season ends
October 2, 2008 · Updated 7:35 PM
The Mount Si Wildcat boys' basketball team hasn't had many breaks go their way this season. That changed with the Feb. 9 win over Interlake, which set up the Feb. 12 final regular season game at home against Liberty. A win on senior night would send the Wildcats to the playoffs and despite early struggles, Mount Si used clutch shooting and tough defense to outlast the Patriots 46-41 and earn a rematch with their longtime rivals in the Kingco tournament.
Tanner Riley scored 12 points as the Wildcats overcame a strong Liberty start. Mount Si's defense was very important in this game; the Wildcats held the Patriots' top scorer, Ryan Peterson, to just six points. "Finally, we played defense like we practice. We're supposed to front all posts and we did that, and we put pressure on the ball," said Mount Si coach Sloan Strohl.
