A local youth baseball team's hot summer season only got hotter recently as they traveled north of the border and brought home some hardware.

The Sno-Valley Wildcats, a U-16 Mickey Mantle baseball team featuring players who play in Mount Si High School's baseball program, won all five games at the Can-Am youth baseball tournament June 29-July 2 in Oliver, British Columbia, Canada, and brought back home the championship trophy in their age group.

"[It] felt really good. We've been up there four years and this is the first time we actually won it," said Wildcat player Zack Robinson.

The Wildcats beat five British Columbia teams to win the crown. They opened June 29 with a tight 6-5 victory over the Abbotsford Cardinals. On June 30, SV easily handled the Okotoks Black, then won another nailbiter, this against the Okanagan Tigers.

July 2, they blew out teams from both Nanaimo and the Fraser Valley to claim the title.
