Fall City cyclist takes on the nation
A local youth cyclist made a splash on the national stage recently, doing very well at a competition in New England.
On July 20, Fall City resident Eric Emsky, who will be a sophomore at Mount Si High School this fall, won the National Mountain Bike Race in the Men's Junior Expert Cross Country class for 15 and 16 year olds at Mount Snow Resort in southern Vermont, racing a time of 2:08:24.10. He also finished sixth July 22 in the Junior Expert Men Short Track race for racers under 18. He clocked a time of 23:51.11, just 18 seconds behind the winner, Eric Thompson of Minnesota.
Eric has had a busy, but very successful year. In April, he placed first among his team competitors at both the Brad Lewis Memorial Criterium and the Seward Park Spring Classic, both in the Junior "B" division. In May, he did well in the Enumclaw Stage Race, finishing first in the junior "A" time trial with a time of 14:36.5.
Eric also competed in several other local races this spring, called the "Indie Series," and did well in those. He finished 10th overall in the "Open" division with a total of 406 points. He placed in the top 10 in all four races entered, seventh in the two he competed in and first in two that he competed in for the junior-expert under-18 class.
