Local youth golfers hitting the links with fantastic results
It has been a busy last few weeks for several local youth golfers as their summer golf seasons wind down.
On the boys' side, Valley golfers dot the scoreboards in the high-school-age categories of 14/15 and 16/17 in the various events of the Washington Junior Golf Association. The list is led by Snoqualmie's Bradley Harrelson, who finished sixth at the WJGA state tournament in Tacoma July 26-28 in the 14/15 division. The sophomore-to-be at Mount Si shot rounds of 78, 77 and 75 for a total of 230 over the three days of the event. Harrelson's strong state finish continued a run of nice finishes, which started off with a win July 12 at a WJGA subdistrict qualifier in Carnation, and a fourth-place finish at the WJGA district tournament in Kenmore July 16 and 17.
Snoqualmie's Jon Larson, in the 16/17 class, also made state with a pair of 77 rounds at Inglewood, then only made it through two rounds in Tacoma, firing rounds of 83 and 86 before missing the third-round cut. Fellow Snoqualmie golfer Kevin Ormiston shot 80 and 81 at the Inglewood event, and did not get a trip to state. Fall City's Michael Rutledge, in the 14/15 class, could have gone to state as he shot well enough at the districts to make it, but he withdrew from the district event after shooting rounds of 78 and 81.
