Girls' basketball eyeing post season
October 2, 2008 · Updated 7:29 PM
If the Mount Si Wildcat girls' basketball team makes the playoffs, last week may be remembered as the one that made the difference. Two big wins against Liberty and Mercer Island put the Wildcats very much in good position now to make the Kingco Tournament.
Last Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Mount Si, the Wildcats used a great second-half performance to take care of the Patriots, 68-42. Mount Si was tied 30-30 at the half with Liberty before the Wildcat defense slammed the door on the Patriots. Mount Si used that very stifling defense to outscore Liberty 38-12 in the second half to pull away.
"Liberty showed us some zone defense that we haven't seen all year and a little triangle or two which we haven't seen all year either, so it took us a while to kind of get our bearings with that and we talked about that at halftime and what we wanted to do and I thought the girls came out and just really played well, executing our game plan for the second half and I thought our defense was as good as it's been all year," said Wildcat coach Dirk Hansen.
