'Cats looking to playoffs

It was a good week for the Mount Si Wildcat girls' basketball team as they played well in both their games. Despite ending up with a split of those two games, the Wildcats made it back to the postseason.

The Wildcats opened the week last Wednesday night with a convincing win over the Interlake Saints. Four players scored in double figures, led by the 16 of Caitie Richards, as Mount Si took care of Interlake 64-43.

Mount Si broke out to an early lead, then was able to take control of the proceedings througout the evening. Interlake's two top players, Lauren Freidenberg and Sarah Anderegg, did their best to keep their team in the hunt, but they could only do so much. Only one other player for the Saints besides their two stars scored in the contest. As for Freidenberg, she finished with 19 points; Anderegg finished with 22 before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the balance for Mount Si was greatly felt. Symone Shaw and Karly Thompson each scored 13 points and Traci Nelson added 10 to pace the Wildcat efforts.

Sporting a new red hairdo thanks to losing a bet with his players, Mount Si coach Dirk Hansen offered praise to Interlake. "Hats off to Interlake, too. Coach [Scott] Marcum has done a really good job with that squad, and those two post players [Freidenberg and Anderegg] are the best in the league as far as I'm concerned," Hansen said.

The win, combined with Skyline's win over Liberty, clinched a berth for the Wildcats girls in the Kingco Tournament.
