Cedarcrest wrestler Carlos Toledano takes third at Mat Classic; McBride, Decker in top eight

High school wrestlers Bailey McBride, Curtis Chittenden, Ely Malametz, Nick Decker, and Carlos Toledano won spots in the state tournament this weekend after a successful showing at the Region 1 2A wrestling tournament at Sedro Woolley Saturday, Feb. 9.
At the Mat Classic in Tacoma, Toledano took third in his class, 160 pounds. McBride, at 106, took sixth, Decker, 152, took eighth.
A week earlier, at regionals, McBride took first place, as did Malametz at 138 and Toledano at 160. Chittenden took second place in the 132-pound class, and Decker took fourth at 152. Another Red Wolf, Callen Martinez, 113, earned a sixth place, but did not advance to state.
The state tournament matches began Friday, Feb. 15, at the Tacoma Dome and concluded with matches to determine winners through eighth place Saturday.
