Heading into the end of the regular season, the Red Wolves boys basketball team had a strong stretch last weekend against league competition.
On Friday, Jan, 27, Cedarcrest hosted Granite Falls, winning 80-62.
"We were able to feed off the energy of the crowd," coach Mark Prince said. The boys started out quick, pulling to a 10-lead in first few minutes. "The team was really focused in and their energy level was off the charts."
Zach Taylor led with 27 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals, while Justin Houser had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Against Archbishop Murphy on Saturday, the Red Wolves had a tighter match but won it, 45-43.
Houser scored all 12 of his points in the first quarter, and was a key to success as he knocked down open jumpers.
While the Red Wolves struggled offensively, defense kept them in the game. Justin Corpus had nine points, Taylor had six rebounds and seven steals, Chris Dowd had eight assists and two steals, and Tanner Marty had four rebounds and two steals.
"It was a good win for us," Prince said. "It showed we can win a tough defensive low scoring game."
Cedarcrest plays Lakewood tonight at 7 p.m. at home to end the regular season.
