Mount Si girls golf team takes promising second in home jamboree
The Mount Si High School girls golf team fell to Bellevue but dominated Sammamish and Interlake in a home four-way game Wednesday, March 16.
The team's performance in their first jamboree impressed coach Brandon Proudfoot.
"This leads me to believe we're going to be stronger in league," he said.
Top golfers included Proudfoot's lead seniors: Maggie Robinson and Julia Dorn both shot 50 or better on nine holes.
Wednesday's rainy, soggy weather factored into everybody's play.
"It absolutely poured before we teed off," Proudfoot said. Rain cleared before play, and the team didn't have to pack umbrellas, but putting and chipping were challenging for all comers, and greens could be hard to read.
Mount Si's first league match is next month.
"We still have some time, which is good, because I have quite a few young golfers. It's time to get them up to speed," Proudfoot said.
Mount Si's newest players are athletic enough to adjust to swing changes. All they need now is the time and opportunity to get a feel for course play.
The Mount Si girls golf team plays Tuesday, April 12, at Liberty. Game time is 3 p.m.
