The Cedarcrest Cross Country squad competed Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Lakewood High School against rivals in the Cascade Conference.

The Red Wolves girls squad won a tight battle over Lakewood, winning the team race by one point. Once again, it was Cara Strodel, Tia Smith and Jessica Beam leading from the front, followed by a bunch of freshmen filling in the varsity spots.

The boys squad lost a tight battle to Lakewood, with the Cougars winning by six points. The top five boys all placed in the top 13.

Coach Bruce McDowell said team depth was in evidence on the boys’ side.

“We were able to put 10 boys in every other teams’ top 7,” he said. “We were able to put 13 boys in the top 41, almost one third of the places.”

Cedarcrest athletes of the meet were Justin Konersmann, Madison Waterman, Tia Smith and Keith Griffin.
