Oil spill victims aren't 'small people'

This past week, the Big Cheese at British Petroleum referred to the fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico as “small people.”

That remark relegates them to insignificance. They are people who have been deprived of their source of income. They are not “small,” they are hard-working, law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens. They deserve a little more respect.
