Rather than a levy to restore funding to King County law enforcement ("Sheriff: budget cuts pushing public safety to 'crisis point,'" Wednesday, July 29), it might be less expensive and more effective if taxpayers legally armed themselves after, if need be, undergoing gun safety and self-defense training.

It might also result in King County discovering overlooked tax dollars hidden away somewhere — kind of like uncounted boxes of ballots.
