I feel compelled to validate closure provided by the memorial service for baby Kimball at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church, held last month.
So touched by what must have been the struggle of this tiny baby girl, I wrote a poem which helped me process this loss, and need for more awareness to step up involvement in our communities. Perhaps my words may help others, too. And those in trouble must know they are not alone.
For baby Kimball Doe, we gather to honor your soul.
Your short time on earth touched all our hearts.
I pray your struggle leads others to a new start.
There is power in each presence as we gather in love,
In the knowledge of compassion on earth and above,
For God is your father with arms held high,
As we claim your essence and say goodbye,
We’ll savor life and honor your memory,
By helping and committing to the needs we see.
As you closed your eyes to life on earth,
I pray you found peace on that small patch of dirt,
Our hearts break for you, alone in the dark,
Now morning has broken in the legacy of your mark.
You travel on ahead and wait at the gate,
To welcome those who cared for your fate.
Your mother, in agony, had to let you go,
May she find guidance out there in the cold.
In the arms of warmth and joy we believe you are safe,
As the gates of heaven open to welcome your sweet face.
No footprint is too small to leave its mark on this world.
