Still waiting for vet’s memorial

Two years have passed by since the Snoqualmie Valley Record published my letter to the editor (Ideas for North Bend, March 24, 2009) and sadly North Bend is still without its own veteran’s memorial.

This is a real shame, considering our country has been at war in Afghanistan for 10 long years and at war in Iraq for eight long years.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a small item published in the SVR indicating the North Bend city manager claimed nothing would be done on a veterans memorial this year due to a lack of funds.

But that really wouldn’t be the case if the city used the round-about on the south end of North Bend Way like I first suggested two years ago.

In my opinion, it’s not a lack of funds but rather a lack of desire on the part of some city officials that’s really holding up our long overdue North Bend Veterans Memorial.
