Letter: Restoring civility to government may start with a vote for Ritchie

I am a voter who is sick and tired of fear-mongering, hatred, sexism, racism and bigotry dominating the political scene. I support Jason Ritchie in the 5th district race for State Representative. He provides a common sense, positive alternative to the hatred of incumbent Jay Rodne.

I believe strongly in American ideals of tolerance and religious freedom. Just as I felt sick when I listened to Donald Trump call for a complete shutdown of Muslim entry into the United States, and later called on Muslim Americans to report on each other, I also felt sick when Jay Rodne wrote that Islam is is “incompatible with Western civilization,” and called on Americans to arm themselves. People who spread such hatred should not govern.

His opponent, Jason Ritchie, condemns such bigotry and fear-mongering. His focus is on improving the lives of working families. He is both a teacher of history, and a small business owner. His business makes homes accessible to people with disabilities, including disabled veterans. His work has guided him toward seeking practical solutions to problems. He looks forward to working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Jason Ritchie has the endorsement of the Seattle Times. He has my vote. I believe a vote for him is a step toward returning civility to our government.
