It's never too late to have a happy childhood
P>I have been admonished by several people the last couple of
weeks for neglecting to do my column so I actually managed to come into
work extra early this morning so I could plunk down with a cup of coffee
in front of the computer to get the column done!
Calendar-wise, Autumn has officially arrived. I think that is why
we were bombarded with rain on the 23rd when just the day before it was in
the 80's. Mother nature decided to remind us that the glorious summer
weather has to come to an end.
Sparky and Molly are relishing the cooler weather and can actually
sleep 23 hours a day instead of 20. I never thought I would see Mr. Hyper
turn into an old cat, but Sparky seems to have done just that. He no
longer wakes me up early. He may wait for the alarm to go off, but he then
proceeds to curl up on me, then gets up and moves a few inches, and flops
like he is the most exhausted cat in the world. My fitness trainer is failing
me by not making sure I get up early.
Corny joke of the week: How can you tell a toy is nervous? It's all
There are many sports activities going on at the local schools. If
you like to cheer the teams on, you have a choice of football, volleyball,
soccer, tennis, cross country.
How about some "deep dark chocolate brownies" to go with
that cocoa on these cooler evenings? Combine 1 box brownie mix, 1/4 c.
water, 1/4 c. applesauce and 2 egg whites-mix until combined, but do not
over-mix. Pour the mixture into an 8" square pan and bake at 350 for 20
minutes or until lightly set. Make sure you lightly spray the pan first. Spread
1/4 c. walnuts over the top and bake another 20 minutes or until the
brownies are firm to the touch. These brownies could be made even lower
calorie by using the fat free brownie mix (which is very good) and egg
substitute in place of egg whites.
Who does the dishes? A national poll showed that 28 percent of
men claim they do dishes every day, while their wives claim only 8 percent
of them actually do!
It happened this week: Alice and Ralph had their first lovers' spat
when "The Honeymooners" first aired in 1955, the "Peanuts" comic strip
premiered in 1950, and the "Mickey Mouse Club" made its debut in 1955.
Here's a new use for old veggies that have become wilted. Simmer
the veggies until they fall apart, strain and refrigerate or freeze the liquid to
use as a soup broth.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood. There is a lot of fun
"kid" stuff to do like roller skating,
skateboarding and doing cartwheels in the yard. This summer I had fun
doing handstands in the pool and jumping in and making a big splash (Lucy
was my swimming instructor and made me jump over and over again!). Get
out there and find something kiddish to do!
