Riverview M & O levy is necessary

The Riverview School District is running a maintenance and

operations (M & O) levy on Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2000. This levy funds almost 20

percent of our schools' general fund. That means if it does not pass, and most

of our levies fail or pass by a thread, that we can expect drastic cuts that

endanger our music program, physical education programs, gifted programs,

special education programs and counseling services.

If the levy does not pass, you can forget any new books for the

classrooms or libraries, and building maintenance will fall hopelessly

behind. This levy is just a renewal of our existing levy and not a new tax.

It is essential for the health of our schools and therefore the health of

our community that we all vote and vote yes for the M & O levy on Feb. 29.
