Storefront abutting street works

I thought Mark McDonald's comments published March 3 were very interesting. He said that having the storefront on the street doesn't work. I think he needs to take a look at the Larry's grocery store in Queen Anne. It actually has store front on several sides of a city block and does very nicely business-wise (it's always teeming with people when I go there).

The square block occupied by the grocery store has parking underground with an elevator up to the store. There are also a couple of businesses above it (McDonald's and Starbucks). I think Mr. McDonald needs to get more of a "can do" attitude. The folks who live in the area should be able to stick to their ideals.
