Pep rally was vulgar

I attended the Mount Si homecoming assembly thinking that it would be "rah, rah, rah" for the home team. Instead it was "raw, raw, raw," in the crudest sense of the word.

As stated in last week's letter to the editor section, there was stereotyping of "gays," but there was much more than that. There was a skit that included provocative dancing with a hula hoop. There was a dating game that included inappropriate questions to six contestants, including a cross dresser or transvestite and a homosexual.

The skit referred to last week about "Adam and Steve" included girls who looked like hookers and mocked the story of creation, which many people believe is valid, rather than the "big bang" story.

The thing that disappointed me the most was the lack of exemplary leadership on the part of the students and the staff. The students who planned the skits were the supposed leaders of their classes. They violated dress codes and the school motto, "Mt. Si, no place for hate."

The staff showed lack of judgment when they did not step up and stop the compromise displayed before their very eyes. I have not attended a "pep" rally in about 30 years. I guess things have changed. Not for the better, unfortunately. God can be mocked in today's assemblies. Girls can dress seductively and teachers can stand back and let it happen, lowering the standard even further.

It's time to get back to basics. Reading, writing, arithmetic and honest-to-goodness school spirit.
